Giga Texas: The Birthplace of Tesla’s First Cybertruck

After a long wait and plenty of suspense, Tesla has finally done it! The first Cybertruck, the company’s shiny, futuristic pickup, has come to life at the Giga Texas Gigafactory, located not far from the cool city of Austin, Texas. The company shared this exciting news in a tweet.

Fans have been eager to see this high-tech truck since its first glimpse was revealed in 2019. Tesla had big plans to get the truck rolling off the assembly lines by late 2021. However, a couple of bumps in the road, like the hiccup during the demo when the ‘bulletproof’ windows weren’t so bulletproof after all, slowed things down.

Even with all the whispers and rumors swirling around, Tesla kept their plans for the truck under wraps. But in 2021, they let slip that they were working on an even cooler version of the Cybertruck. Elon Musk, the CEO known for his charisma and big ideas, blamed pesky supply chain problems for slowing down their plans.

As we welcomed the new year, Tesla reassured everyone that the Cybertruck was coming. Despite the rocky road to get here, the Cybertruck seems ready for its close-up. Tesla posted a photo of the Cybertruck looking shiny and fierce as it emerged from the Giga Texas factory line. It was captioned, “First Cybertruck built at Giga Texas!” This particular model is believed to be a test drive unit that will help make the production process smooth and efficient.

Earlier, Musk had predicted that mass production of the Cybertruck would kick off in 2024. But in a surprise move, he hinted at a special Cybertruck delivery event happening in the third quarter of 2023. However, crafting the Cybertruck’s super cool stainless steel frame and next-gen 4680 battery hasn’t been easy.

The Impact of Supply Chain Shortages on Cybertruck’s Delayed Production

Originally, Tesla had announced a pretty ambitious release plan for the Cybertruck in 2021. Prices were supposed to start at $39,900 for the single-motor version and go all the way up to $70,000 for the triple-engine beast. However, they’ve hit pause on deciding the final prices, taking a hard look at how the economy’s doing and the ongoing supply chain issues.

The first ever Cybertruck’s debut marks four years since Musk first unveiled the radical vehicle. He’d initially aimed to start churning them out in late 2021. The Cybertruck isn’t just another pretty face, with a strong stainless steel body that Musk swears can stand up to small arms fire, and an impressive towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.

Upon its grand entrance, the Cybertruck will dive head-first into a highly competitive electric vehicle market. It’s going to be a tough competition, especially in the pickup segment. Among its competitors are Rivian’s R1T, GMC’s Hummer EV, and Ford’s F-150 Lightning, all with starting prices of $73,000.

Tesla had first intended to launch three versions of the Cybertruck, with prices between $40,000 to $70,000. However, the prices have been removed from the pre-order page, keeping everyone in suspense about how much they’ll eventually have to shell out for this beast.
